Our Approach
Environmental stewardship at Syngenta Crop Protection begins when products are first being developed. Our process for evaluating products ensures they fall well within stringent regulatory agency product-registration guidelines.
Our process begins when our scientists find molecules that show a useful promise for society. Once a compound is found, it begins a journey that takes it through more than 200 scientific tests and experiments. These tests are designed to make certain that the new product will perform well for our customers without creating unreasonable risks to human health and the environment. Only one or two compounds may make it through the seven to nine years of rigorous testing to become a useful product.
Syngenta scientists not only focus on specific molecules but also on how the end product will be delivered. We are the only company in our industry that boasts a fully staffed and equipped packaging engineering department. Many of our packaging innovations - such as recyclable mini-bulk containers and water-soluble pouches - have become industry standards. These innovations in packaging annually save our landfills from millions of pounds of plastic while reducing the potential for worker exposure.
Our commitment to stewardship is also reflected in our manufacturing process. Throughout all of our operations, we use the most modern technology available, to produce the highest quality products in the safest and most environmentally responsible manner. Our facility in St. Gabriel, LA, is a member of the Environmental Protection Agency's National Environmental Achievement Track. This honor is afforded business operations that consistently reach a higher standard than the federal regulatory requirements and have sustained a record of energy conservation, coupled with air quality, water quality, and waste disposal compliance.
Once our products are manufactured we continue our stewardship efforts. We work closely with distributors, retailers, applicators and farmers to help ensure that our products are shipped, stored and used in compliance with product stewardship guidelines and all applicable regulations. (See
