Voices Across the Plains Profiles Wheat Growers During 2010 Season

·     Syngenta program follows 13 growers from Washington, Idaho, North Dakota, Minnesota, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, as well as a custom harvest crew
·     Growers tell the story of their season through print, radio and online media

Greensboro, N.C., July 12, 2010 – Through the Voices Across the Plains program, Syngenta is profiling 13 innovative wheat growers to provide a snapshot of their management practices that can serve as a resource for wheat growers across the country. The program also follows a custom harvest crew, Vieth Brothers Custom Harvesting, as it journeys north from Texas.

“Each region of the United States has unique disease, weed and insect challenges, so one management practice may not be effective for all areas,” said Wendell Calhoun, Syngenta senior communications manager. “Voices Across the Plains growers are able to share what works for them to give other growers ideas for how to improve their production practices.”

Syngenta is collaborating with various print, radio, interactive and online media to showcase how these Voices Across the Plains growers prepare for the planting season, determine which management methods and products to use and when and how to harvest their crop. Monthly articles and bi-monthly radio interviews showcase how the growers’ crops are progressing. Video clips from four of the participating growers allow viewers to experience changes in the field firsthand. All the information is compiled on the Syngenta Voices Across the Plains site.

“Syngenta continuously strives to learn about and address the needs of its customers beyond providing top-quality products like Axial® brand herbicides, Quilt® fungicide and Cruiser® insecticide seed treatment,” Calhoun explained. “This effort allowed us another opportunity to collaborate with customers in a way that is easy and effective for them. Our participating growers have been extremely helpful and insightful, providing valuable information for other growers in our key cereal-growing regions.”

Growers and retailers who want to follow the Voices Across the Plains growers should log on to the program’s website. They can find information and frequent updates about the grower nearest them, as well as others across the country.
